In Robotic Cancer Surgery, robotic techniques enable a radical operation to be performed with preservation of nerves and other critical structures, due to better visualisation and articulating instruments bringing more precision and lesser side effect.
The surgical treatment for cancers has traditionally been done by open techniques. An open surgery is associated with a large wound, greater pain & delayed recovery and return to normal activities.
Laparoscopic Cancer Surgery or "Minimally Invasive" surgery is a specialized technique for performing surgery using small incisions of 0.5 to 1cm in size as a result of which there is less pain and early recovery.

Traditionally gastrointestinal cancers which had spread to the abdominal cavity lining (i.e. Peritoneum) were treated with a nihilistic attitude and were considered stage 4. Their treatment has been similar to those of other metastatic solid tumors which include intravenous chemotherapy.
